PropertyTaxRefund.org 888-887-5187
A nonprofit organization helping homeowners and property owners across the United States receive the property tax refunds they are owed. Not a government office.

Your county may owe you a property tax refund.

If you paid too much property tax, the county is supposed to give the extra back. Most people never see it. We are a nonprofit with one purpose: helping people receive the refunds they are owed. Our representatives do the work. You get the check.

It costs nothing unless you get paid. The county mails the check to you.

Who we are

PropertyTaxRefund.org is a nonprofit organization. We exist for one reason: to help homeowners and property owners get back property tax money that is sitting in a county office with their name on it. Homes, land, rental property, commercial property. If you paid the tax, the refund is yours.

Nobody owns this organization. There are no shareholders and no profits. Every dollar that comes in goes to the people who do the work and to reaching the next person who is owed a refund. That is all we do. Our representatives work with county tax offices every day, know what each one requires, and stay on a claim until the check is in your hands.

We do not get paid unless you do.

Got a letter from us?

Your letter has a claim code on it. We have already prepared your claim. Enter the code below, check that everything is correct, and sign. That is all.

Why most refunds never get paid

The county does not come looking for you. Getting the money back is on you, and it is not simple.

  • Every county has its own forms and its own rules. What works in one county gets rejected in the next.
  • Some counties require notarized forms. Some require proof of every address you have lived at since the tax was paid.
  • If the name on the record does not match your ID exactly, the claim gets sent back.
  • If the person on the record has passed away, the county wants estate paperwork before it will talk to anyone.
  • Refund checks go to the address on file, which is often an old one. Then the check sits uncashed.
  • Many refunds expire. Deadlines differ by state and by county. If the paperwork is wrong, the clock keeps running while the county sends it back.

Most refunds are a few hundred dollars. Some are a few thousand. Most are never claimed.

How it works

  1. Enter your claim code, or your name and property address. Your claim comes up already filled in. You check it. If anything is wrong, you call us and we fix it.
  2. Sign. Type your name. A representative handles the rest with your county and follows up until it is paid.
  3. The county mails you the check. In your name, to your address. The money never comes to us.

What it costs

10%

Ten percent of what you get. Paid after you get it.

Nothing up front. Nothing while we wait. Nothing if the county says no.

The ten percent is the whole budget. As a nonprofit, we have no owners and no investors. The fee pays the representatives who call the county offices, the paperwork, the postage, and the follow-up on every claim, including the ones the county turns down. Whatever is left goes to reaching more people who are owed money.

We only get paid when you do. So we have every reason to see your claim through to the check.

Common questions

Are you the government?

No. We are a nonprofit organization. We are not the county, not the state, and not any government office.

Who owns this organization?

Nobody. A nonprofit has no owners. It has a board, staff, and a purpose. Ours is getting people their refunds.

Will I get a person when I call?

Yes. A representative answers. Not a recording, not a menu.

Will you ask for my bank account?

Never. We do not take your money. The county mails a check to you.

What will you need from me?

Your signature, and usually a copy of your driver's license or ID. Your representative will tell you if your county needs anything else.

How long does it take?

Usually one to three months after the county receives the signed claim. Older records and estates take longer.

I did not get a letter. Can you check for me?

Yes. Call 888-887-5187. A representative will check whether a refund is on file in your name.
